Patient Safety Special Precautions For Covid-19

At Teeth by Thukral, infection control, sterilization and hygiene has always played a very important role. We have always considered patient safety and risk of cross contamination very seriously.

Keeping this in mind, even before this global pandemic, we were following all internationally accepted norms for Infection control, sterilization and hygiene.

We have however, upped our game to keep up with the challenges of the pandemic.

Here’s a detailed description of what we do:

1. Instruments:

        1. All used instruments are thoroughly washed and boiled.
        2. Following this they are then put into an ultrasonic bath.
        3. Instruments are then dried and packed into sealed pouches.
        4. The pouches are then sterilized in a front-loading Class B autoclave, which is the international standard.
        5. Instruments are taken out of the sealed pouches just before use in front of you.

2. The dental chair, dentist stool and all surrounding surfaces, table-tops, cabinets and doorknobs are thoroughly wiped down with a disinfectant after every patient.

3. Patients: Thermal scan check, Oxygen saturation check, headcaps, gloves, shoe covers and hand sanitizers provided routinely. Blood pressure and blood sugar checks for patients known to be affected by hypertension and diabetes.

A pre-procedural rinse with betadine is done for every patient.

4. For your Convenience:

        1. Limited number of patients.
        2. Work by appointments only.
        3. Strictly no walk ins.
        4. Minimal waiting time.

5. Crowns and Dentures received from the dental laboratories are first disinfected in a UV-C chamber followed by chemical disinfection with sodium hypochlorite solution before it is inserted into your mouth.

6. Dentist and Staff: Wear a cotton coverall/surgical gowns which is washed in detergent, dried overnight and then packed in a sealed pouch and sterilized in the autoclave. Headcap, half face respirators, protective glasses, face shield and double layered gloves while working.

7. For the operating rooms:

        1. Use of Air Purifiers with HEPA 14 filters to remove all possible bacteria, viruses and other microbes from the air.
        2. Rooms are aired out after all aerosol (tiny droplets of water that float in the air generated from the use of high-speed drills and ultrasonic scaler units) based treatments are done.
        3. Floor is swept and mopped with a disinfectant at least 2-3 times a day.

8. The entire clinic is Fumigated every day at the end of the day as well as in between patients when needed.
