ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

Braces are the most natural way of correcting the position of the teeth. So, teeth that overlap each other or those that may have a lot of spaces between them can be aligned to perfection with braces. At Teeth by Thukral we have a braces specialist (Orthodontist) who visits specifically to manage these situations using a variety of options including the latest ‘invisible’ braces.

What is the best age to see an orthodontist?

If you want to improve the look and feel of your smile, then any age can be a great age to see the orthodontist. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first visit an orthodontist around the age of seven; however, orthodontic treatment is not exclusive to children and teens, with about one in every four orthodontic patients being over the age of 21. Whether you’re considering treatment for yourself or for a child, any time is a good time to visit the orthodontist.

What does an orthodontic treatment do?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, are at a risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and gum disease. They also cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, neck, shoulder and back pain as well as disorders of the jaw joint (TMJ). Teeth that are crooked or not in the right place can also detract from one’s appearance. Metal or ceramic brackets and wires (called as braces) are used to align the teeth properly.
The benefits of orthodontic treatment include a healthier mouth, a more pleasing appearance, and teeth that are more likely to last much longer.

How long will I be in braces?

Treatment time obviously depends on each patient’s specific orthodontic needs. In general, treatment time lasts from 6 to 18 months, but varies based on individual treatment complexity, needs, personal treatment goals and regularity in keeping your appointments.

Do braces hurt?

You can expect the braces to make your teeth sore for a few days after they are placed and after each adjustment. These adjustments will make you more conscious of your teeth, but they should not be painful. This annoyance can be relieved with an over-the-counter pain reliever. Today’s braces are smaller, more comfortable and use technology that reduces the discomfort.

What all can I eat with the braces?

You will be allowed everything except anything hard, crunchy, sticky which can damage your braces causing additional appointments and lengthening your treatment time.

Can I align my teeth without braces being visible to others?

Yes. Today with advanced technology, clear aligners (virtually invisible braces) can be used to align your teeth. Clear aligners are a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners that help shift your teeth into the proper position thereby omitting the need to use metal or ceramic brackets. At Teeth by Thukral we offer ‘Invisalign’ clear aligners who are the pioneers of this technology.
